How much fish oil should you take a day?
Although there are no strict recommendations, most studies recommend consuming between 250-500mg of EPA and DHA per day. Typically, there is around 300mg of combined EPA and DHA in a 1000mg fish oil capsule. Keep in mind that some brands of omega 3 fish oil soft gels contain higher EPA, DHA, and omega 3 dosage than others, so be sure to read the label and take as directed.

Are there side effects of taking omega-3 supplements?
When taken with strong blood thinners like Pradaxa and Coumadin, there might be a slight blood-thinning effect, although studies have not found any serious adverse effects at recommended dosages. With low-dose daily aspirin (Cartia), our medicines are generally safe unless there is a history of severe bleeding or other warning signs. It's important to discuss all supplementation with a doctor.
