Leading with Purpose: Our CEO Tony Falkenstein Appointed Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit - About Health | Blog
At About Health, we believe wellbeing is about more than just health — it’s about making a real, positive difference in our communities and for the generations to come. That’s why we’re so proud to announce that our CEO, Tony Falkenstein, has been honoured as a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours. This recognition reflects Tony’s many years of dedication to business, education, and giving back, all driven by genuine passion and commitment.
The New Zealand Order of Merit is one of the country’s highest honours, recognising outstanding service to the nation in various fields. Being appointed a Companion is an impressive accolade, highlighting incredible contributions to business, education and philanthropy.
Backing the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs
Tony has long believed in supporting young people is one of the best ways to create lasting change. In 2019, he launched the Vanguard Programme at the University of Auckland Business School , a bold initiative that sends high-achieving students to Silicon Valley (the word’s innovation hub) to immerse themselves in the world of global entrepreneurship.
For many of these students, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that challenges their thinking and broadens their perspective on what’s possible.
Tony’s support doesn’t stop there. He has also funded international learning opportunities for University of Waikato business students and recently donated $500,000 to Waikato Management School to expand access to global study tours, helping to open doors for future leaders who might not otherwise get the chance.
A Champion of Innovation and Growth
Tony has played an active role in strengthening business education throughout New Zealand, over the years. He’s contributed his time and expertise to the advisory boards of AUT and Waikato Management School, helping shape programmes that equip students with real-world knowledge and entrepreneurial thinking.
In 2012, he helped launch the New Zealand chapter of the Entrepreneurs’ Organisation — a global network that supports business owners with mentorship and connection. He’s also a proud member of New Zealand Asian Leaders, an initiative working to increase diversity and representation at the top levels of business.
His contributions have been recognised internationally too. Tony was the first New Zealander inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Society, which celebrates excellence in business education worldwide, and he received a KEA World Class New Zealander Award for ‘New Thinking’ — a nod to his forward-focused mindset and commitment to pushing boundaries.
Leadership With Purpose
What truly sets Tony apart is his belief in using business as a vehicle for good. Whether it’s creating opportunities for young people, supporting education, or mentoring future changemakers, Tony leads with generosity and vision.
At About Health, we’re fortunate to be guided by someone who brings heart to every decision — someone who doesn’t just talk about making a difference but lives it every day.
So, when you choose About Health, you’re joining a community led by purpose, a community that believes in uplifting others up, investing in the future, and making a real difference together.
Congratulations Tony, your leadership continues to make a lasting difference.
